The State Tourism Secretariat invited local, national and international tourists to admire the whales passing by the coasts of Oaxaca.

The State Tourism Secretariat invited local, national and international tourists to admire the passage of whales along the coasts of Oaxaca, which cross the area during their migratory journey.

According to experts, whale watching season off the coast of Oaxaca is December to March, so that specimens of this species are already seen and enjoy the warm waters of the Pacific.

This year the passage of about 300 mammals is foreseen; the best months to observe these huge cetaceans are January, February and March. Some even measure up 16 meters. Every winter season, hundreds of humpback whales, from the Circle Arctic Polar, they undertake their journey year after year through the coasts of Alaska, passing through Canada, the northern United States and California to reach the Pacific Mexican. The marine specimens come to this area, to reproduce and give birth to their young.

“Friends from all over the Mexican Republic, come to the coast of Oaxaca to enjoy, here we can see humpback whales ”, the secretary of tourism, Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, invited people through a video on social networks.

This December, the humpback whale watching season officially began in Huatulco, where state and municipal authorities made a maritime tour.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) this natural event can be observed until March 31, 2021.

Authorities recommend respecting the spaces they use because there are some whales that are pregnant.

The whales can be observed in Huatulco, Puerto Ángel-Mazunte, Puero Escondido and throughout

the Oaxacan coast. According to Huatulco authorities, the period is from December 15, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
